Lenexa EST Develops Award-Winning “Lenexa 311” Free Service App

Lenexa, Kan. – The City of Lenexa has taken the concept of interacting with residents one step further. The City’s Enterprise Systems & Technology Department (EST), has released the “Lenexa 311” App on the Apple iTunes App Store, allowing residents to report everything from damaged road signs to potholes, improper signal timing and codes requests, all on a mobile platform.

While residents can still call the City or use the City website at www.lenexa.com to report a problem, the App makes that process easier and more efficient. Residents can take a photo of the problem, set their location and include details about the problem. They then choose the request type, and once the “submit” button is pressed, the correct staff person at the City of Lenexa is immediately notified.

Lenexa chose to use its own staff to develop the Lenexa 311 App, instead of an outside firm, because it allows the service requests from citizens to be directly transferred into an internal database.

“The biggest reason we did that was so citizens could see the status of their request in real time as it is being worked through the system,” said Andrew Davey, director of Lenexa’s EST department.

Within the App, and on the City’s website, www.lenexa.com, residents can see updates on their requests as they are handled by the City. Residents can also see and track requests submitted by others, so that know whether someone else has already reported their issue to the City.

On Nov. 5, the City received the prestigious “ImpacT Award” from The Kansas City Business Journal in the client interface category for the Lenexa 311 App. The City plans to pursue a patent for the App and, in the future, consider selling the technology to other municipalities nationwide.

Get the free App for your iPhone or iPad, by clicking here: www.itunes.com/apps/lenexa. Lenexa 311 will be available on other mobile devices next spring.
