Rental Registration

The City of Lenexa has adopted and implemented a Residential Rental Licensing Program to help maintain the city’s quality neighborhoods and property values and promote the quality of life that Lenexa residents expect. While neighborhoods throughout Lenexa generally are in good condition, the city is taking this proactive step to ensure that neighborhoods do not deteriorate, and they retain their safe, attractive and friendly character.

The program includes a biennial (every other year) exterior inspection. These inspections are generally conducted in the spring by Community Standards staff. For more specific information, please refer to our Inspection Checklist. Rental Licenses renew annually during the licensing period, which runs from Jan. 1 to Dec. 31.

Obtain a rental application
Completing the Rental Licensing Application is required to obtain a Rental License. There is a required licensing fee, please contact City Hall at 913.477.7500 for that information, as the fee differs based on the type and number of properties you own and rent within the city. Also, the Crime Resistant Addendum can be found here for your convenience.

The city rental licensing requirements do not apply to hotels and motels licensed by the State of Kansas, convents, monasteries, parish houses or rectories, mosques, temples, synagogues, hospitals, jails, residential dwelling units owned and operated by any housing authority and nursing homes or assisted living facilities licensed by the State of Kansas and subject to inspection by other government agencies.
