The Neighborhood Revitalization Exterior Grant Program was established to assist property owners in reinvesting in their properties within the Neighborhood Revitalization District. Applications will be accepted for completed projects (all work must be done in the calendar year of the request) immediately after completion. The city anticipates that the Exterior Grant Program will spur a minimum investment of $300,000 in the community.
The Grant Program
A grant will be awarded as a partial reimbursement for actual cost for architectural services and/or construction costs and material costs for exterior remodels/ improvements. New construction will also be eligible. The grant will be available for 20 percent of the amount of the investment to the nearest $500 for qualifying improvements. The minimum investment is $5,000; there is no maximum investment. The minimum grant will be $1,000 and the maximum grant will be $2,500.

Funding for the Grant Program will be appropriated from the City’s General Fund. Continuation of the Grant Program will be considered annually by the Lenexa Governing Body.
Criteria for determining eligibility
- Property must be located within the Neighborhood Revitalization District.
- All real estate taxes must be current.
- Adequate property insurance must be in effect.
- The improvements must conform to City of Lenexa Municipal Code and other applicable building codes.
- Only one grant per property or property investor every 10 years.
- Eligible improvements include, but are not limited to, façade restoration, window/door repair or replacement, masonry, awnings, signage, exterior lighting, exterior painting, building additions, new roof and landscaping. Fences are not allowed.
How to apply
Obtain an application online or from the City Clerk, located at Lenexa City Hall, 12350 W. 87th Street Parkway, Lenexa KS 66215. The completed application must be filed with the City Clerk upon completion of the improvement. The applicant must submit a summary of all receipts and copies of the receipts totaling in excess of the minimum $5,000 investment with their application.
Applications will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis per year until the dedicated funding is expended. Determination of first-come, first-served is upon confirmation by the Department of Community Development (code enforcement) that the improvements comply with city regulations.
Receiving the grant
Upon receipt of a complete application, the City of Lenexa will inspect the improvement to ensure that it conforms to all Codes. Upon confirmation that the improvement complies with all codes, the city will issue necessary paper work to be completed by the applicant. Once the paper work is received, the payment to the applicant will be processed during the next normal accounts payable cycle, which occurs every two weeks.
