Our residents expect exceptional quality of life in Lenexa, and they have been supportive of investing in roads and parks to maintain that level of quality. In 2008, residents approved a 3/8-cent sales tax increase to help maintain the city’s roads, improve existing park facilities and provide new recreational opportunities. The sales tax became effective on Oct. 1, 2008, and will expire in 20 years.
The sales tax currently generates $4.5 million annually, and is allocated as follows: 40 percent is used to maintain the city’s roads (through the Pavement Management Program) and 60 percent is used to improve existing park facilities and provide new recreational opportunities.
These projects are partially or fully funded by the 3/8-cent sales tax:
- Pavement Maintenance Program
- Civic Center
- Mill Creek Sports Fields
- 95th Street Multi-Use Trail
- Sar-Ko-Par Trails Park Improvements
- Freedom Fields Improvements
- Play Equipment Improvements
- Black Hoof Park Improvements
For the status of these projects, see the Public Improvement Projects web page.
