Important information for firefighter applicants
The Lenexa Fire Department is committed to providing the highest quality of service in an effort to exceed our customers’ expectations. Applicants for the position of firefighter should understand that the city is interested in hiring employees of the highest caliber with a commitment toward excellence in community service.

Our department is dedicated to the preservation of life and property in our community. We are one of only 207 fire departments in the country listed as an "Internationally Accredited Agency" with the Commission on Fire Accreditation International. The Lenexa Fire Department also has the best Insurance Services Office (ISO) Public Protection Classification Rating in the State of Kansas. We are constantly striving to improve our programs to enhance the quality of life in our community. Our department’s services provide immediate safety, security and quality compassionate service to the citizens, businesses and patrons of Lenexa. These services include fire and injury prevention, community support activities and emergency operations.

Emergency responses include all incidents requiring pre-hospital emergency medical care and transport to hospitals, all fire suppression activity, all hazardous materials emergencies and all specialized rescue dilemmas, including high-angle victim rescue, crashed vehicle victim extrication, confined space rescue, trench, water and ice rescue. Our department is constantly prepared for any natural or man-made disaster that has the potential to threaten the community’s quality of life.

With an authorized staff of 85 employees working out of five fire stations, the Lenexa Fire Department responds to over 5200 emergency calls, treats and/or transports over 2,800 patients, and provides fire and first aid safety education to over 12,000 people each year (equivalent to approximately one out of four of the Lenexa populous). Lenexa firefighters are scheduled to work 216 hours in a 27-day work period (nine 24-hour shifts in 27 days) and are paid bi-weekly.
