Attend a Council meeting

Meeting schedule

As a member of the public, you are invited to attend Lenexa City Council meetings. They are held on the first and third Tuesday of the month in the Community Forum at Lenexa City Hall, 17101 W. 87th St. Pkwy. Meetings typically begin at 7 p.m. and can last varying lengths of time.

Making comments during a meeting

  • Your comments will be limited to five minutes, unless additional time is granted by the Mayor.

  • Please approach the podium and say your name and residential or business address for the record. Also, please state the topic you are speaking about.

  • If you are acting as a spokesperson for a group, please also say the group’s name.

  • File any petitions, copies of correspondence or other pieces of information that you would like to present with the City Clerk before or at the meeting.

  • If you make personal, impertinent or slanderous remarks, or if you become boisterous, you may be asked to leave the meeting.

Items on the agenda: As an audience member, you cannot typically provide comments about items on the agenda, unless you are invited to do so by the mayor or the item also has a public hearing. Comments about these items can be made either through email or phone call to your council member.

Public hearings on the agenda: We hold public hearings on certain agenda items when we are required to do so by federal, state or municipal law. You are invited to provide comments specific to the agenda item during the public hearing.

Items not on the agenda: Comments must be made during the part of the council meeting designated “Business From Floor.”

If you are unable to attend a meeting

If you cannot attend a meeting, you can contact members of the City Council about a meeting agenda item by phone or email.

We will also notify City Council members of all communication our staff receives regarding agenda items.

Ex parte communication: If you contact a member of the City Council about an item on the agenda (particularly in regard to quasi-judicial action such as zoning matters), they will disclose that information for the record prior to discussing and voting on an item at a meeting.

Video recordings

Watch video recordings of past Lenexa City Council meetings since Jan. 3, 2023. The videos integrate with digital meeting agendas, so you can choose sections based on the topics that interest you.

Students and scouts attending a meeting

We welcome boy and girl scouts who are working on a merit badge, and high school students fulfilling class requirements at our City Council meetings. Please check in with the City Clerk before the meeting. The Mayor may ask you to introduce yourself during the meeting.

Request accommodations

If you need accommodations, please call the city ADA coordinator at 913.477.7550 (Kansas Relay Service 1.800.766.3777) at least 48 hours in advance of the meeting.
