Lenexa has a new Municipal Court judge, Erika DeMarco, who will take the bench on June 27, 2017. The Municipal Court Judge is a mayoral-appointed position. We received a number of applications for the position, and after a panel of senior city employees interviewed five candidates, they recommended Mayor Michael Boehm interview two candidates. Boehm recommended DeMarco to fill the position.
DeMarco comes to Lenexa from the Johnson County District Attorney’s Office, where she served as an Assistant District Attorney since 2006. While at the District Attorney’s Office, DeMarco charged and prosecuted adult criminal cases and assisted law enforcement with legal aspects of ongoing investigations. She also has served in a variety of community service roles, including on the Johnson County Community College Administration of Justice Advisory Board and the KU Law Mentor Program.
DeMarco earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in political science and psychology from Northwestern University and her Juris Doctor degree from the University of Kansas School of Law.
