The Lenexa City Council held a public hearing on the 2019-2023 Capital Improvement Program at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2018. The public hearing was part of a Special Call City Council meeting.

The recommended Capital Improvement Program is $152 million for fiscal years 2019 through 2023. The program has 37 funded capital projects. Three projects comprise 52% of the recommended CIP.

  • Pavement Management Program ($32.6 million)
  • Ridgeview Road – K-10 to Prairie Star Parkway ($29.9 million)
  • Stormwater infrastructure replacement ($16.8 million)

The recommended CIP adds 10 new projects, including:

  • 87th Street improvements – Renner to Maurer ($6.7 million)
  • Mobile/portable radio replacement for public safety functions ($4.5 million)
  • City Center North special benefit district – Elmridge Street ($3.6 million)
  • Quivira Road improvements – 75th to 87th ($3.3 million)
  • Scarborough Street (City Center) special benefit district ($2.1 million)

In the recommended CIP, 70% of the funding is proposed for streets, bridges and traffic projects. Stormwater projects make up 12% of the recommended CIP and facility projects equal 9%. Capital equipment and other projects make up 5% of the recommended CIP and 4% is proposed for Parks & Recreation projects.

City Administrator Eric Wade worked with staff during the past several months to prepare the recommended Capital Improvement Program.

The recommended CIP will be voted at a City Council meeting in December.

A Capital Improvement Program is a planning and fiscal management tool. This program serves as a guide for implementing and financing various capital needs such as streets, traffic signals, bridges and public facilities that align with the City Council’s strategic goals.
