A Chili Mecca

Each year, about 200 teams compete in two divisions: Chili Appreciation Society International (C.A.S.I.) and Home Style Chili. Contestants also compete in the Salsa and Hot Wing contests.

Chili contestants arrive on Friday afternoon to begin setting up their booths. The festivities Friday night include live music and fireworks. The contest begins Saturday at 10 a.m. with free samples for the public (while they last). Awards are typically announced at 4 p.m.

New in 2014

New in 2014, kids 12 and under are invited to join in on the fun at the Lenexa Chili Challenge with the Kids Kornbread Contest. Show your culinary skills by creating the best cornbread in the contest, and be eligible to win great prizes including ribbons, aprons, and passes to the zoo, planetarium and Science City.

Also new in 2014, the public is invited to compete in the first Bean Bag Toss Tournament on October 17 from 7-10 p.m. in the Community Center parking lot. Fee is $10 per team of 2. Prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place will be awarded.
