Spinach Festival

Presented by 94.9 KCMO

Saturday, September 6, 2014
9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Sar-Ko-Par Trails Park, 87th Street Parkway & Lackman Road

Lenexa was hailed as the “Spinach Capital of the World” during the 1930s. Each year, we celebrate that part of our history with the annual Spinach Festival, a fun, family-oriented event that draws thousands of visitors from all over the area.

It’s a festive day of food, music, entertainment, arts and antique vendors, a recipe contest, wine and craft beers, cooking demonstrations, history, kids’ activities and so much more – all set in the beautifully renovated Sar-Ko-Par Trails Park.

Art, Fine Craft and Antique Show
One of the main attractions is the Art, Fine Craft and Antique show, featuring a wonderful variety of items such as pottery, fused glass, repurposed furniture and items, jewelry, felted bags and other items, baskets, wood items, metal garden art, quilts, clothing, doll clothes and accessories, antiques and vintage items and so much more! Vendors who would like to be considered for the 2014 show may apply online starting March 1. Find more vendor information here.

Spinach Recipe Contest
Each year, area cooks show off their creative culinary talents in the annual Spinach Recipe Contest. Tasty and unique spinach treats are judged in four categories: Appetizer, Salad, Entree and Dessert. Cash prizes are awarded to the top entry in each category. To enter the contest, fill out the application form, and turn it in with your spinach item to be judged, along with a copy of your recipe. All entries must be turned in at the Gazebo at Sar-Ko-Par Trails Park between 12:30-1:30 p.m. (please plan enough time for parking and arriving at the Gazebo). Judging begins at 2 p.m. Samples will be made available to the public for tasting once items are judged. Winners will be announced in front of the stage following judging.
