A day of fun
Bring your family and friends to Black Hoof Park for the third annual Get Outdoors Lenexa, a family event that offers a variety of activities. We’ve lined up a great morning of outdoor challenges, yoga, kickboxing and stroller strides demos, outdoor safety tips, geocaching, an obstacle course and much more. The event and most activities are free.
A fishing derby for kids ages 12 and under will be held. The fishing derby is catch and release. Prizes will be awarded for the biggest, smallest and most fish. Please bring your own equipment (a limited supply of poles will be available to borrow). Pre-registration for the fishing derby is requested.
New this year is the Tiny Tot Triathlon, a fitness event for kids ages 3-6 that includes bicycling, running and getting wet in the sprinkler and waterslide. All participants will receive a medal. Bring a bicycle or tricycle, helmet, tennis shoes and comfortable clothes that can get wet. Adult assistance is required. Kids will bike 600 feet, run 600 feet and then get wet at the end of the route. No swimming is involved. The triathlon takes place from 10-11 a.m. Preregistration opens April 1 and closes June 9. Kids can also sign up at the event. Fee - $2 for preregistration or $5 at the event.
The Lenexa Family Campout will be held the night before in Black Hoof Park. All participants must preregister at the Lenexa Community Center.
Get Outdoors Lenexa is held in conjunction with National Get Outdoors Day, which encourages Americans, especially our youth, to seek out healthy, active outdoor lives and embrace our parks, forests, refuges and other public lands and waters.
