Lenexa park shelters are available on a first-come, first-served basis unless reserved. Shelter reservations may be placed for the current calendar year only, beginning on the first business day in January of each year.
To reserve a shelter, go to the Lenexa Community Center (13420 Oak Street – 93rd and Pflumm) anytime Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. to pay the fee (see below) and sign the contract. Lenexa residents must show proof of residency by providing a valid driver’s license with their current Lenexa address or a photo ID along with a current utility bill in their name.
A shelter reservation applies to the use of the shelter and its amenities only, including tables, grill(s), cement pad and fire pit (Oak Shelter). Playgrounds, open areas, courts and parking lots will be shared with other park patrons.
No tents, inflatables (Buffalo Meadows excluded), carnival type games or booths, waterslides, piñatas, live animal shows, DJs, amplified music, or vehicles are permitted on the grounds surrounding the shelter without prior approval and/or a Special Event Permit approved by the Lenexa Parks & Recreation Department. Please adhere to the parking lot capacity when planning large events.
Park restrooms are only open from mid-April to the end of October. Portable toilets will be available November through mid-April with the exception of Matt Taylor and Bois D’Arc Parks. PLEASE NOTE: LPRD staff will unlock park restrooms beginning at 5 a.m. and lock restrooms starting at 9 p.m. Events at shelters may continue until park closes; however restrooms may be unavailable after 9 p.m.
