About the academy
The Citizens’ Police Academy is designed to educate the community about the structure and activities of our police department, and to give participants the opportunity to meet and interact with officers. Sessions are led by division personnel and most operational units. Topics include:
- patrol procedures
- criminal law
- officer safety
- traffic enforcement
- K-9, tactical and investigations units
- D.A.R.E. program
- firearms
- crime scene processing and crime prevention
- a tour of the Adult Detention Center in Olathe
Academy dates and location
The 34th class of the Citizens’ Police Academy will run from Feb. 15 through May 2, 2012. Classes are generally held on Wednesday evenings from 6:30 p.m. to approximately 9:30 p.m. Classes are held at Lenexa Police Headquarters at 12500 W. 87th St. Pkwy.
Who can enroll?
Applicants must be at least 18 years old, live or work in Lenexa and have no criminal record. Criminal history background checks will be conducted.
How do I apply?
Applications are available in the front lobby of the police station or you may apply online. If you apply online, please call 913.477.7245 to confirm receipt. There is no fee to attend. Register early; class size is limited for this popular program.

CPA Masters Courses
The Lenexa Police Department offers Masters Courses for academy graduates that provide specialized training for various community volunteer positions.
CPA Masters Courses vary in length depending on the topic. Some qualification requirements apply for certain programs.
