In our Community Standards Division, we are responsible for ensuring our neighborhoods stay beautiful by enforcing property maintenance codes. As a homeowner, you are responsible for making sure you comply with these codes.

Common code violations

  • Trash and recycling container storage: You must store all trash, recycling and yard waste behind the building line or inside your garage. If you keep it outside, you must store it in a container.

  • Outdoor storage: You may not store items outside that are not intended or manufactured for outdoor use.

  • Inoperable vehicles: Every vehicle on your property must either be street operable or be stored in your garage.

  • Weeds/grass: Your lawn, including weeds, may not be taller than 8 inches on developed residential lots, and may not be taller than 12 inches elsewhere. There are exceptions for agricultural land.

  • Boats, trailers and RVs: You must park your recreational vehicles in your side or rear yard, behind the building line and screened from view. If you need to park it in your driveway, you must first obtain a Temporary Parking Permit.

  • Exterior maintenance: You must maintain your home in an acceptable condition. You may not have peeling paint, rotten wood, fences in disrepair or broken windows or doors.

  • Nuisances: You may not keep items considered a nuisance. This includes appliances, excessive trash or waste, or anything that causes a foul or unhealthy odor.
