About the Market

Imagine a place to grab a meal with a friend, buy artisan products, pick up a gift, attend a special tasting event or relax with a cool beverage. The Lenexa Public Market will be the only fully indoor public marketplace in the Kansas City area — uniquely located inside a city hall. Projected to open in mid-2017, this 11,000-square-foot food hall and market will lease space to local owner-operated businesses that feature fresh foods and artisanal products. The market will be a dynamic place for residents to gather, showcasing our community's character through food, drink and locally sourced goods. And it will provide opportunities for local entrepreneurs to build, grow or expand a business.

Location

The Lenexa Public Market will be part of the City of Lenexa’s new civic campus currently under construction at Lenexa City Center. The campus — opening in mid-2017 — includes a new city hall, recreation center and a future Johnson County library branch. Lenexa City Center is a 3.5-million-square-foot mixed-use development at 87th Street Parkway and Renner Boulevard west of I-435 that will ultimately feature a mix of housing, shops, offices and entertainment venues on more than 200 acres.

The Lenexa Public Market facility and amenities include:

  • Common area and outdoor seating

  • Free parking on street or in 500-stall garage

  • Public restrooms maintained by the city

  • Loading dock and stock/storage space

  • Events space with test/demonstration kitchen (1,525 sq. ft.) and seating for up to 50 people

  • Opportunity to cater city events

  • Access to 40-person conference room

  • Outdoor public plaza area with stage

  • Free Wi-Fi

  • Companion outdoor seasonal farmers’ market (opening in 2018)


Tenant and Leasing Options

When filled, the Lenexa Public Market will be home to approximately 15 merchants (depending on size). About 85 percent of the market will be devoted to food, beverages and restaurants, with the remaining merchants offering other handcrafted products. The city is willing to consider a variety of options/proposals based on space availability, as well as tenant need and desire.

  • Large (more than 500 sq. ft.) – includes full kitchen operation

  • Medium (less than 500 sq. ft.) – no full kitchen, but will have plumbing and electrical

  • Small (less than 250 sq. ft.)

There are opportunities to fit various merchant needs. In addition to long-term leases, we also offer:

  • Short-term leases (90 days–12 months)

  • Pop-up shops (30–90 days)

  • Market day carts


Hours of Operation

The Lenexa Public Market is anticipated to be open seven days a week. Tenants may have variable hours within that time frame.
  • Monday–Thursday: 6 a.m.–9 p.m.
  • Friday–Saturday: 6 a.m.–10 p.m.
  • Sunday: 6 a.m.–6 p.m.

  • The Roasterie – coffee kiosk with specialty drinks and assorted baked goods

  • Foo's Fabulous Café – breakfast and lunch items, burgers and frozen custard

  • Topp'd Pizza + Salads – pizzas, salads, sub sandwiches, small plates and appetizers

  • Marilyn's Mad Treats – dessert bar and soda fountain (by owner of Mad Man's KC BBQ)
