Ready to tackle some spring landscaping projects? Consider installing plants and projects that help naturally treat rain runoff and are eligible for reimbursement through Lenexa's Cost Share Program.

Through this program, funded by a grant from Johnson County Stormwater Management and matching city dollars, we will reimburse you up to 75 percent of your costs for eligible items related to:

  • Rain barrels

  • Native plants

  • Rain gardens

  • NEW: Native trees

  • NEW: Cisterns

  • NEW: Permeable pavers

Funding is available on a first-come, first-served basis. The maximum reimbursement is $110 per rain barrel and $1,500 for rain gardens, native plantings, cisterns and pavers.

We've streamlined our online application process for 2018. You can also submit your application and receipts by email, mail or in person.

Interested in implementing native plants into your landscape, but not sure where to start? Here are some selections from our stormwater team: the experts who select and grow native plants throughout Lenexa.

  • Butterfly Milkweed (Asclepias tuberosa). Great for butterflies. Dry to average soils. Full to part shade.

  • Lance Leaf Coreopsis (Coreopsis lanceolata) Good pollinator and food source for birds. Dry to average soils. Full to part shade. 

  • Little Bluestem (Schizachyrium scoparium) Short grass. Dry to average moisture. Full to part shade

  • Prairie Blazing Star (Liatris pycnostachya) Good pollinator. Dry to average soils. Full to part shade.

  • Prairie Dropseed (Sporobolus heterolepis) Short grass. Dry to average soils. Full to part shade.

  • Purple Prairie Clover (Dalea purpurea) Good in landscapes. Dry to average soils. Full sun.

  • River Oats (Chasmanthium latifolium) Short grass. Average to wet moisture. Full to part shade.

  • White and Blue Indigo (Baptisia alba, Baptisia australis) Good pollinator. Average to wet soil. Full to part shade.
