Keep pollutants out of streams

Two common sources of stream pollutants might be coming from your home.

  • Pet waste is a main source of bacteria in our streams. Always pick it up in your yard and when taking your dog on walks.

  • Yard waste may not seem like a pollutant, but leaves and lawn clippings will decay, using up the oxygen in the water and adding excessive nutrients to the water supply.

Report illegal dumping

If you notice a strange substance flowing into a storm drain inlet or spot someone pouring something into a storm sewer, report it by calling 913.477.7680 or submitting a service request at Lenexa.com/311.
