Learn the Signs: Human Trafficking Seminar

Learn the Signs: Human Trafficking Seminar
Posted on 11/01/2018

Human trafficking is the fastest growing crime in the United States — and it happens closer to home than you may think. But if you know you what to look for, you can play a valuable role in preventing children from being lured, tricked or forced into exploitative situations.

The Lenexa Fire Department is offering several free seminars on this topic: one for emergency responders, one for social service providers and one for the general public. You can sign up for classes at the links below.

Emergency Responder Class: Nov. 13-14

Social Service Provider Class: Nov. 13-14

Public Presentation: Nov. 13

Author and radio host Opal Singleton has educated people across the nation on how predators operate and how to prevent young people from becoming victims of exploitation.

Her presentation will cover sensitive but critical topics including labor and sex trafficking, sextortion, child pornography and social media explotation.

Opal will focus on how technology is used to recruit young people into dangerous situations and how to notice the warning signs.

While anyone is welcome to attend the public presentation, it will be especially useful for parents, grandparents, school administrators, medical personnel, faith-based organizations and others who work with children regularly.
