Food Drive: Hunger doesn't take a summer break; cans

Summer break is a welcome reprieve for many kids. It is also a time of great hunger for those who rely on school meals.

During the month of May, Lenexa’s We Care Committee will collect easy-to-make meals and snacks to help fill the hunger gap for kids and families this summer.

The City is offering eight drop-off locations. Please put your nonperishable items in the marked barrels at each location. The donations will benefit the Johnson County Human Services food pantry.

Items needed include:

  • Boxed meals (mac ‘n cheese, meal helpers)
  • Canned meals (canned pasta dishes)
  • Microwave meals (rice or noddle dishes, mac ‘n cheese, popcorn)
  • Peanut butter and jelly
  • Canned tuna
  • Breakfast items (oatmeal, cereal, boxed toaster pastries)
  • Granola bars
  • Pudding cups
  • Fruit cups
  • Juice boxes
  • Toothpaste
  • Hand soap

Drop-off locations:

  • Lenexa City Hall
  • Lenexa Rec Center
  • Police Station (Public Safety Complex)
  • Lenexa Community Center
  • Lenexa Senior Center
  • Municipal Services Service Center
  • Fire Station No. 3
  • Fire Station No. 5

The City of Lenexa’s We Care Committee is made up of representatives from each City department. The group organizes events and campaigns throughout the year to support area nonprofit organizations.
