It's summertime! With no school and warm weather, kids are sure to be active. Here are some safety considerations from the Lenexa Police Department to help ensure everyone stays safe and has fun this summer:

  1. 1. Wheels = Helmets. Make sure your child has a properly fitted helmet before taking a spin on their bike, scooter or skateboard.
  1. 2. Reinforce the "buddy system" with your child because there is safety in numbers! If they aren't out and about with you, stress the importance of staying together with their friends.
  1. 3. If your child is staying home during the day, do they know: their home address, parent's cell or work number and how to use 911?
  1. 4. Watch for cars! Talk to your child about how to safely cross the street, and be aware of how close to the road they are when playing in the yard.
  1. 5. Stranger safety: If your child is not with a trusted adult, do they know not to talk to, take anything from or go with a stranger?
