Accreditation and ISO Rating

We are proud to provide high-quality service to our community. This is evidenced by our accreditation through the Commission on Fire Accreditation International (CFAI) and our Insurance Services Office (ISO) Rating of 1.

CFAI Accreditation

CFAI Internationally Accredited Agency since 2002 badge

We have maintained our Accredited Agency status by the CFAI at the Center for Public Safety Excellence Commission since 2002.

Accreditation requires fire staff to rigorously prepare for an in-depth scrutiny by an accreditation review team. The review includes a five-day site visit conducted by peer assessors from four states who confirmed that we met all criteria established through CFAI's voluntary self-assessment and accreditation program. The evaluation process included verification and validation of programs and services we provide and in-depth reviews of city and Fire Department policies, principles and practices.

Our accreditation is good for five years, during which we must complete annual compliance reports showing progress in recommended areas.

ISO Class 1 Rating

On July 1, 2014, Lenexa became a Class 1 community, based on the ISO independent rating system for measuring the quality and effectiveness of municipal fire protection. We are one of less than 488 cities out of over 50,000 surveyed in the U.S. to have earned an elite ISO Class 1 rating.

ISO’s Public Protection Classification ratings are used to help establish appropriate fire insurance premiums for residential, commercial and industrial properties. The program provides an objective, countrywide standard that helps fire departments plan and budget for facilities, equipment and training. ISO’s evaluation program includes 10 classifications, with 1 being the highest and 10 being the lowest.
