Security Measure

COVID-19 Response Plan

Lenexa Parks & Recreation's COVID-19 response plan covers applicable restrictions, occupancy limits, social distancing requirements, cleaning and sanitization practices in accordance with state and county Health Department mandates. It also addresses patron and staff protocols for personal safety practices.

Parks & Recreation COVID-19 Exposure Control Plan

Outlines processes and procedures to prevent or minimize exposure to COVID-19.


Patron expectations

  • Follow the face covering code of conduct.
  • Perform the self-assessment prior to visiting any facilities or participating in any activities. Please stay home if you are sick.
  • Social distance whenever possible.
  • Read all signage when visiting facilities. Follow all posted current guidelines and restrictions.
  • Wash or sanitize hands regularly including prior to arrival and before leaving.
  • If you believe you have been exposed to COVID-19, please follow these steps.
  • Patrons/users who do not adhere to guidelines may be removed from the facility or activity.

Self-assessment expectations

All employees, patrons, and visitors are expected to stay home when experiencing any symptoms of illness. If the answer is “yes” to any of the assessment questions, we ask that you don’t enter any facility or participate in any activities. 

Self-assessment questions:

  • Are you experiencing or have you experienced any of the following symptoms in the last 48 hours (fever, cough, shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, muscle pain, sore throat, new loss of taste or smell, chills)?
  •  Are you caring for someone or is someone in your household ill with COVID-19 or COVID-19-related symptoms?
  • Have you been exposed to anyone who is ill with COVID-19-related symptoms?

Face covering code of conduct

It is highly recommended that individuals age 6 and older wear face masks while visiting Lenexa Parks & Recreation facilities including the Rec Center, Community Center, Senior Center, Thompson Barn, and Legler Barn Museum. No masks are allowed to be worn while in the water at a public pool. 

Effective as of Aug. 16, 2021

Masks are required for the following:

  • Instructors and participants, regardless of age, must wear a mask for any indoor program that contains children 12 and under and meets the below qualifications: 
    • Registration is required.
    • Program is indoors.
    • Social distancing is not feasible.
**Please note: No masks required when participating in an aquatics program or during active play of a sports program.
  • Any staff interacting with children 12 and under will be required to wear a mask. This includes Lenexa Rec Center Kid Zone and birthday party attendants. 
**Please note, aquatics staff in the water teaching are exempt from wearing masks.
  • Any City-provided transportation.

Masks are highly recommended when:

  • Entering facilities to pick up or drop off children for a youth program or in the Lenexa Rec Center Kid Zone space.
  • In areas where you cannot socially distance from other patrons.
  • Any program with ages 13 and above enrolled. (For any program with ages 12 and under enrolled, masks are required for all regardless of age).
  • Children 6 and above attending the Lenexa Rec Center Kid Zone.
  • Unvaccinated individuals participating in any City program or event.
