Understanding Police Use of Force Workshop

Since 2016, we have hosted this annual workshop in order to educate civilians about the various aspects of police use of force. We have found that the public sometimes has misconceptions about this topic, which were primarily derived from movies, television shows, social media and news stories. While it's not meant to be all-encompassing, this workshop does cover the following areas:

  • Overview of Lenexa PD policy and practices that relate to police use of force.

  • Overview of how Lenexa PD trains and equips officers for force encounters.

  • Defining “police use of force”, including “deadly” and “less-lethal” force.

  • Overview of U.S. case law and constitutional authority relating to police use of force
In addition to the workshop, attendees have the opportunity to participate in realistic scenarios using our firearms video simulator.

The workshop is hosted at the Lenexa City Hall Community Forum, 17101 W. 87th St Parkway. This workshop is free; however, registration is required and attendees must be at least 18 years of age.
