Men redoing road

Road construction season has arrived, and sections of five major thoroughfares, about 15 subdivisions and a trail are slated to receive new surface treatments and other repairs as part of Lenexa’s 2018 Pavement Management Program.

For 2018, Lenexa is investing approximately $5 million in pavement maintenance work, which consistently ranks as Lenexa’s top priority in community surveys. The blend of projects will improve the rideability of streets and help prevent major costly, disruptive repairs down the road.

Sections of five major thoroughfares will receive two-inch mill, asphalt overlay, repair of deteriorated curb and gutter and replacement of ADA ramps where needed:

  • Marshall Drive from 87th Street Parkway to Pflumm Road

  • Lenexa Drive from Quivira Road to Pflumm Road

  • Pflumm Road from 87th Street Parkway to the north city limits

  • Woodland Road from Prairie Star Parkway to Kansas Highway 10

  • Mize Road from 83rd Street to the north city limits.

Lenexa received County Assisted Road System funding for 50% of the project costs associated with these five projects.

Several subdivisions throughout Lenexa will also receive preventative maintenance as part of the 2018 PMP.

Deteriorating sidewalks and curbs will be replaced in these areas, and neighborhood streets will be milled and applied with an ultra-thin bonded asphalt surface (UBAS).

UBAS consists of a coarse, thin aggregate mix placed over a special asphalt membrane. This surface treatment is quick to apply, you can drive on it soon afterward, and the smooth surface has been well-received by residents and drivers.

Residents will be notified of work in advance by signs and door hangers and be asked to move parked vehicles off the street.

Little Mill Creek Trail between 87th Street Parkway and 84th Terrace will also receive a new surface treatment.
