2019 Lenexa Artists’ Show winners recognized

Group photo of thirteen local artists who were honored this week at 2019 Lenexa Artists' ShowLocal artists were honored this week for their artistic skill as part of the annual Lenexa Artists' Show. The popular annual juried exhibit celebrates the abundant talent here in Lenexa. This year’s show features 36 artists and 64 pieces of 2D and 3D art in the first and second floor gallery spaces at Lenexa City Hall. Thirteen of the exhibit’s artists are participating for the first time this year.

Judges: Lory Rodak, a graphic designer at Johnson County Parks & Recreation; John Carroll, is an art educator at Johnson County Community College and University of Missouri - Kansas City.

All participating artists were honored at a public reception on Aug. 22. Winners were announced and include:

Best of Show: Richard Gilson, “The Mighty Pen” (wood)

Lenexa Arts Council Choice: Wendy Delzeit, “Ol’ Blue Eyes” (photography)

First Place Photography: William Spreadbury, “Leavenworth National Cemetery”

First Place 2D: Judith Gallipeau, “DandeLions” (acrylic)

First Place 3D: Harry Healey, “American Kestrel” (wood carving)

Second Place Photography: Bethany Thomas, “Sunday Morning”

Second Place 2D: Bradford Athey, “Any Road” (Prismacolor colored pencil)

Second Place 3D: Marci Blank, “Reba’s Wrap” (fiber)

Honorable Mentions:
  • Tracey Kahtava, “Poppies” (acrylic)

  • Fred Murry, “Head Dress” (metal and wood)

  • Lisa Coyan, “Positivity and Light” (jewelry)

  • Barbara Nelson, “Watching God’s Active Presence” (watercolor pencils, charcoal)

The Lenexa Artists’ Show is a program of the Lenexa Arts Council. The exhibit is on display through Sept. 29, 2019, at the Lenexa City Hall Art Gallery, 17101 W. 87th St. Pkwy., Lenexa, KS 66219. The gallery is open Monday–Thursday: 6 a.m.–9 p.m., Friday and Saturday: 7 a.m.–10 p.m., Sunday: 7 a.m.–7 p.m.
