Farm-ula 500 Veggie Race returns!

Farm-ula 500 Veggie Race returns!
Posted on 08/28/2019
vegetable race cars on racetrackLast year's Farm-ula 500 Veggie Race was a hit, so we're doing it again! Lettuce see if you have what it takes to beet the competition in our second annual race at the Lenexa Farmers Market on Saturday, Sept. 14. Judging starts at 10 a.m., and racing follows at 10:30 a.m. until a winner is crowned.

Think you’re up to the challenge? Create a race car from a piece of produce to compete in this elimination-style tournament. The veggie cars will race down a 16-foot track, and the first to reach the finish line will move on to the next round.

Awards will be given for the top three fastest cars, as well as for best decorated and best representation of the farmers market. Both the racing and decorating competitions will be divided into two age categories: 12 and Under, and 13 and Over.

Space will be provided at the market on the day of the race to construct your car if you have not done so already. This construction area will also provide various craft items that can be used as decoration.

So whether you use an eggplant, an onion, a cucumber, or even a mango, get working on your vehicle! We can’t wait to see what you come up with!

How to participate

Register in advance online to ensure your spot, or on the day of the race from 8 a.m. to 9:30 am, if space allows. The entry fee is $5 and includes a pack of supplies that will help you construct your car (two wooden axles, four wooden wheels and four axle caps).

Pre-registrants can pick up their supply pack from the Rec Center starting Sept. 1 to begin constructing their car at home. While we encourage you to use produce from the Lenexa Farmers Market for the body of your car, it is not a requirement.
