How Rec Center handles COVID-19 incidents

How Rec Center handles COVID-19 incidents
Posted on 07/21/2020
COVID-19 under microscopeYour health and safety is always our highest priority — especially during the current global pandemic. The Lenexa Rec Center has been preparing for potential positive COVID-19 cases among employees and members since we began a phased reopening of the facility on June 1, 2020. Due to the dramatic increase in cases across the community, we expect more COVID-19 cases to occur in the future.

Lenexa Parks & Recreation has an exposure control plan in place that describes how we eliminate or minimize exposure to COVID-19 for patrons and staff. We will meet or exceed every requirement from the Kansas Department of Health and Environment and/or Johnson County Department of Health and Environment for public notice, cleaning, disinfecting and reopening of any affected area.

In each COVID-19 situation, our focus is to be in immediate contact with the Johnson County Department of Health and Environment, as well as those potentially exposed. Anyone who is directly exposed to COVID-19 in the Rec Center will not be allowed to return before quarantining at least 14 days from the date of exposure.

Our safety measures

We have taken many proactive steps and put safety precautions in place to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. These include but aren’t limited to:
  • Daily cleaning and disinfection of the building.

  • Nightly operation of an electrostatic sprayer throughout the facility that disinfects the air and other surfaces.

  • Regular sanitization of high-touch areas and equipment throughout the day.

  • Reduced capacity in all active use areas.

  • Limited group sizes for programs and in the Kid Zone.

  • Require staff to perform daily screening prior to starting work.

  • Requiring staff to wear face masks in the building.

  • Various physical reconfigurations in the building to allow for social distancing.

We are consistently reviewing policies and procedures that affect on-site services and building use to determine any adjustments to our operations as things continue to evolve.

Reminders for members and visitors

Please do your part to help limit the spread of COVID-19 in our community.
  • Members, guests and participants age 6 and older must wear face masks that cover your mouth and nose when entering the Rec Center and traveling through non-workout areas of the facility (including the Kid Zone child watch area, lobby, stairwells, locker rooms and restrooms).

  • We strongly encourage wearing masks while participating in activities where a mask is not restrictive to your breathing and you are comfortable performing the activity with it on.

  • Wash your hands thoroughly and often.

  • Maintain at least 6 feet of social distance from other people.
