Promotional activities for Lenexa businesses

The Johnson County Health Department has issued an order that all dine-in areas of restaurants, dining facilities, bars, taverns, and clubs in Johnson County, Kansas are hereby ordered closed to the public.

Some of the affected businesses are adjusting by providing carryout or drive up options for customers.  The City of Lenexa has coordinated with the Lenexa Chamber of Commerce in an effort to support our businesses during this unprecedented time.  For only the duration of the Johnson County Emergency Order closing certain portions of businesses to the public, the City will observe the following guidelines for temporary signage and on-site tent sales:

Temporary Signage

Permits and associated fees will be waived for temporary signs.

Temporary banners and free-standing temporary signs shall comply with the following:

  • Signs shall be located on the same property that the business is located.
  • Signs shall not obstruct the line of sight at driveways and intersections or otherwise negatively affect onsite traffic circulation.
  • Signs shall comply with the following size and quantity restrictions:
  • Façade Signs:  One façade sign no larger than 5 percent of the total area of the façade upon which it is placed. The sign must be attached securely to the building so as not to allow movement by the wind.
  • Free-Standing Signs:  One, non-illuminated, free-standing sign of up to 32 square feet in area and 8 feet in height.
Inflatables are not exempt from permitting but may be allowed with an approved special event permit.

Tent sales

A special event permit and associated fees will be waived for tent sale events for businesses serving as essential services during the Johnson County Emergency Order.

Tent sales shall comply with the following:

  • Tents shall be less than or equal to 400 square feet in area.
  • Tents shall be located out of the right-of-way (typically behind the sidewalk or at least 10 feet from the back of street curb).
  • Tents shall be located on the property where the business is located.
  • Tents shall not obstruct the line of sight at driveways and intersections or otherwise negatively affect onsite traffic circulation.

Please contact the Community Development Department at 913.477.7500 with any questions.
