Tackle our Fall Fishing Derby starting Sept. 1

Tackle our Fall Fishing Derby starting Sept. 1
Posted on 07/31/2020
Hooked on fishing? So are we! Because our summer fishing derby was “fintastic,” Lenexa Parks and Recreation staff scheduled a second oppor-tuna-ty.

We welcome all ages to participate in an on-your-own fishing derby this fall — from Tuesday, Sept. 1–Wednesday, Sept. 30. You will have a full month to visit multiple Lenexa parks and try out different favorite fishing spots.

We will send participants rules on how to submit proof of catching a fish during the allotted time frame and confirm that it was caught in a Lenexa park. Registration deadline is noon on Sept. 28, 2020. Participation in this program is free.

We will randomly draw names for all who participate and submit a photo, and give away some fun I Like Lenexa prizes!
REGISTER FOR FISHING DERBY

Fall Fishing Derby Rules

  1. All participants must be registered on website.
  2. All ages may participate.
  3. Participants between ages 16-74 must have a State of Kansas fishing license.
  4. Participants only need to submit one caught fish for the derby to be entered to win prizes. You will not be entered in the drawing multiple times for multiple fish. If you want to submit another fish because it is a whopper and you're proud of the catch, we are happy to see your great catches!
  5. Participants can fish in any City of Lenexa park.
    • Black Hoof Park – Lake Lenexa
    • Cedar Station Park – Mize Lake
    • Central Green Park (not stocked but has fish)
    • Craig Crossing Park (not stocked but has fish)
    • Hidden Woods Park
    • Sar-Ko-Par Trails Park – Rose’s Pond

(Please note that Shawnee Mission Park is not managed by the City of Lenexa and has separate fishing and boating permits.)

  6. The derby will start on Sept. 1 at 8 a.m. and will conclude on Sept. 30 at 8 p.m. All submissions need to be received by email during these times.
  7. Those who sign up before Sept. 1 will receive instructions by email by 7 a.m. on Sept. 1 on how to submit their fish. Participants that sign up after the derby has started will receive an email no more than 72 hours from when they signed up to participate. Participants should plan to bring blank paper, a dark marker and a camera in order to be able to make their submission.
  8. The winners will be announced by email during the first week of October. We will post some of the photos online to share with our community. If you do not want your photo shared please indicate that in the email. Not allowing your photo to be shared will not affect your ability to win a prize.
  9. Prizes will be picked up at the Lenexa Rec Center. Jenny Doty will reach out to you to let you know when they are available.
