Rev up for Farm-ula 500 veggie race

Rev up for Farm-ula 500 veggie race
Posted on 09/16/2018
Get ready to squash the competition! On Saturday, Sept. 15, the Lenexa Farmers Market will host its inaugural Farm-ula 500 veggie race. Participants of any age are invited to create a racing car from a piece of produce and compete against other cars to earn the title of fastest car.

In this elimination-style tournament, the veggie race cars will race down a 16-foot track, and the first to reach the finish line will move on to the next round. Racing will begin at approximately 10:30 a.m. and the three fastest cars at the end of the tournament will all receive prizes.

There will also be prizes given to some of the best looking cars. Judging will begin promptly at 10 a.m. to determine the Best Decorated, Best Use of Veggies and Best Representation of the Farmers Market.

Both the racing and decorating competitions will be divided into two age categories: 12 & Under and 13 & Over.

How to Participate
Think you’re up to the challenge? Register online in advance or on the day of the race from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., if space allows. The entry fee is $5 and includes a pack of supplies that will help you construct your car (two wooden axles, four wooden wheels and four axle caps). Registrants can pick up supply packs from the Rec Center starting Sept. 1 to construct their car at home if they wish. While we encourage you to use produce from the Lenexa Farmers Market for the body of your car, it is not a requirement.

Rules and registration

Space will be provided at the market on the day of the race to construct your car if you have not done so already. This construction area will also provide various craft items that can be used as decoration.

So whether you use an eggplant, a cucumber, or even a tomato, get working on your vehicle! We can’t wait to see what you come up with.
