Matt Randall of MorningView Market Farm holds cucumbersSix years ago, Matt Randall started gardening after moving into a house that had previously had raised beds for gardening. Everything was in pretty poor shape, but Matt cleaned it up and planted his first garden. Something clicked, and he realized he really loved gardening. The project manager by day and former amateur wine maker had found his new love and hobby.

His garden has grown since then. Matt moved to another house, where he added several raised beds to fuel his hobby. This year, he leveled up and dedicated most of his backyard to growing produce for the farmers market under the name MorningView Market Farm. In addition to his backyard, Matt also expanded to his in-laws’ property out of town. Between the two places, Matt now farms a half acre of produce.

Matt grows jalapeños, Japanese Long cucumbers (which he says have the best flavor and thin skin), snack-size lunchbox peppers and tomatoes. He cultivates several different tomatoes including cherry varieties of SunGold and Matt’s favorite, Black Cherry. He also grows the heirloom varieties of Pink Brandywine, Cherokee Purple and the Dark Galaxy grape tomato.

Matt’s focus is on quality and not quantity. He feels he is living his dream growing produce. MorningView Market Farm is at the Lenexa Farmers Market on both Tuesday and Saturdays.
