Explore the journey of Shokhí (Grandfather Rock) and consider the Kanza people’s perspective on a difficult question: What do we do when we realize something wrong has happened?
In partnership with the Kaw Nation, Tai Edwards, C. Huffman and Jay Johnson compiled a book of poetry, art and personal accounts exploring the harm caused when the City of Lawrence used Shokhí as a monument to the town’s founders in 1929. Edwards will share the story of Shokhí and the work to acknowledge and reckon with this history.
Presented by Tai Edwards, professor of history and director of the Kansas Studies Institute at Johnson County Community College.
Ages 18 and up.
