Parking Regulations

General regulations

The following are general parking regulations from Lenexa’s City Code:

  • Don’t park any part of a vehicle on any grass, vegetated area or yard area or sidewalk unless authorized by the City.
  • Don’t park a vehicle within 5 feet of a street-side mailbox between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., except on Sundays and holidays.
  • Any vehicle parked on the public street must move every 48 hours.
  • A vehicle may not be used as living quarters.
  • Don’t park a vehicle with 15 feet of a fire hydrant.

Inoperable vehicles

Vehicles are deemed to be inoperable if any of the following conditions are met:

  • Vehicle is missing a current valid license plate.
  • Vehicle is placed on jacks, blocks, chains or other supports. (For safety reasons, vehicles on jacks or blocks should never be left unattended.)
  • Vehicle is missing one or more parts necessary to be lawfully operated on streets or highways.

An inoperable vehicle can stored in an enclosed garage or other building. It may not be parked on a driveway or public road. Inoperable vehicles left on the road are subject to being towed.

Vehicles parked on the road, driveway or other parking area must remain street operable.

Boats, trailers, motorhomes and RVs (device)

You must park recreational vehicles in your side or rear yard, behind the building line. They must also be screened  from view (with a few exceptions). Recreational vehicles must be stored in a clean and neat manner, and in usable working condition at all times.

Boats, trailers, motorhomes and RVs may be parked temporarily in your driveway for up to four days a month. If you need to park in your driveway for more than a few days, you must first get a Temporary Parking Permit(PDF, 26KB). No more than four seven-day permits are allowed in a calendar year at the same address.

The number of recreational vehicles allowed on a property is based on zoning and lot size. For details on your specific property, contact Community Standards at 913.477.7500.

Known collectively in City Code as “devices,” full regulations for boats, trailers, motorhomes, RVs and other recreational vehicles are in the City Code.
