Start Independence Day off with a bang! Whether you are a walker, seasoned runner or somewhere in between, we are excited to have you join thousands in Old Town Lenexa for our USATF-certified 5K or 10K.

Please note: Walkers and those pushing strollers may only register for the 5K.

T-shirt is included with registration and provided during packet pickup. For an additional $5 you can purchase a Lenexa Freedom Run finisher medal at checkout.

Advance registration. Visit the Lenexa Rec Center (17201 W. 87th St. Pkwy, Lenexa, KS 66219). Hours are 8 a.m.–6 p.m. Monday through Friday
Event day registration. Visit the Lenexa Old Town Activity Center, 9301 Pflumm Rd., Lenexa KS 66215, from 5:30–6:30 a.m.

By mail

Fill out the registration form(PDF, 299KB) and mail it with your registration fees to Lenexa Rec Center, 17201 W. 87th St. Pkwy., Lenexa, KS 66219. Forms must be mailed at least 14 days prior to the event.

Packet pickup

There are two options for picking up your race packet:

July 3, 2026: from 3 p.m.–7 p.m. at the Lenexa Old Town Activity Center, 9301 Pflumm Rd., Lenexa, KS 66215
July 4, 2026: from 5:30–6:45 a.m. at the Lenexa Old Town Activity Center, 9301 Pflumm Rd., Lenexa, KS 66215

Family or friends are allowed to pick up your packet for you. They will need to provide your last name for verification.

Family or friends may pick up your packet with your last name.

Arrival and parking

The race starts promptly at 7 a.m. Please arrive by 6:30 a.m. to allow time for parking and packet pickup. Some roads into Old Town Lenexa will be closed. Review the road closure map(PDF, 904KB) before arriving and avoid parking in areas that will close, as you may be unable to leave until after the parade at 12:30 p.m.

Course information

The 5K and 10K courses are USATF-certified and marked at each mile. The courses share the same route until the 10K split at mile 2.7 on Santa Fe Trail Drive at 95th Street. Distance changes must be made before the race begins.

All runners must be off the course by 8:45 a.m. Participants may walk the 5K, but the 10K is a run-only event.

Water and restrooms

Water stations are available along the course and at the finish line. Restrooms are located at the start line, Alden Street and Santa Fe Trail Drive, and the finish line.

Timing and results

Your race bib contains the timing chip used for official results. Preliminary results will be available at the finish line, with official results posted online within two hours after the race.

Weather

The race will be held rain or shine. Severe weather may result in a delay or cancellation.

Dogs

Dogs are not permitted on the course, except service animals.

Strollers

Strollers are welcome; participants with strollers should start near the back of the pack for everyone's safety.

Awards

5K awards will be presented at approximately 8:30 a.m. and 10K awards at approximately 8:45 a.m. on the Old Town stage.

Road closures

Several roads in the Old Town area will be closed on July 4 for the Freedom Run and Community Days Parade.

Contest results

Finish line photos

We give awards in 25 categories, based on electronic chip times. Race time receipts are available at the end of the event.

We give out awards once we can finalize the race results at the end of the event. If you are unable to stay for the awards and are a winner in one of the categories, you may pick up your award at the Lenexa Old Town Activity Center up to two weeks after the race.
