Board of Zoning Appeals

Responsibilities

The Board of Zoning Appeals has the authority to grant variances and exceptions from the requirements of the Unified Development Code, which would allow a property to be developed in a way normally not permitted by development regulations.

This process is intended to provide relief in unique situations where strict compliance with the code would cause undue hardship for the property owner. Most often, the Board receives variance requests about setbacks, fences, accessory buildings and height of buildings.

Lenexa City Code Section 4-1-K

Meetings

Board of Zoning Appeals meetings, if scheduled, take place on the same night as regularly scheduled Planning Commission meetings.
