Alcohol policy

In order to have alcohol at your event, you must complete a Shelter Alcohol Permit when you make your reservation. Shelter alcohol permits cost $25 and only cover beer and wine.

  • You must be the renter and at least 21 years old.

  • The permit will cover all guests at the shelter.

  • Alcohol may not be consumed outside of the rented shelter.

  • If you are having 250 or more guests at one time and would like beer and/or wine at your event, you must have an off-duty Lenexa police officer on duty.

  • Alcohol is prohibited at Craig Crossing Park and all park open areas, courts, fields, pools, playgrounds, restrooms, and trails.

Other shelter rental policies

  • Restrooms: Our park restrooms are typically open from mid-April through the end of October. Restrooms are closed and water turned off the last week in October to start the winterization process. From end of October through mid-April, you will have access to portable toilets (exception: Ad Astra Park, Matt Taylor Park). We unlock restrooms starting at 6 a.m. and lock them starting at 10 p.m.

  • Electricity Outlets: Maximum of 20 amps for the entire shelter. If too many items are plugged in and the breaker is tripped, issue will not be resolved until the next business day. Please rely on batteries and generators when exceeding 20 amps.

  • Lights: From mid-April to end of October, shelter lights will turn on automatically at 6 p.m. unless it is still light out. The timer will be overridden if it’s still light out and lights will not turn on until it is dark enough. Lights will not turn on before 6 p.m. From end of October to mid-April, lights will turn on around 4:30 p.m. Shelter lights are dim, and guests are welcome to bring LED lanterns (no flames).

  • Noise: Amplified music or sound is prohibited beyond the shelter area.

  • Items prohibited inside and outside the shelter: animal rides/shows/petting zoos; bubbles; carnival games or booths; confetti; fireworks/pyrotechnics; glitter; open-flamed devices, including, but not limited to, firepits, tabletop bonfires (s’mores), sparklers, flambé, paper lanterns, and candelabras; piñatas; silly string; smoke machines; large tents; water balloons; water slides.

  • Decorations are allowed as long as they are tied with twine or zip ties. Nails, staples, screws, cellophane, Command hooks, or any other adhesive material are prohibited.

  • Following your event, please make sure your shelter is cleared of decorations and trash. Our staff will empty the trash bins and clean the grills.

  • If you need to cancel your reservation, you must email parksandrec@lenexa.com at least 31 days before, or you will forfeit your fees.

  • We do not give refunds due to inclement weather. You must email parksandrec@lenexa.com within two (2) business days following the reservation to reschedule due to inclement weather. “Inclement weather” will typically mean weather that is severe or unsafe, not merely undesirable. Determination of whether “inclement weather” exists shall be within the sole discretion of the City.

Special event permit

A Special Event Permit will be required for events that need more space than the shelter area can provide (e.g. walk-a-thons, large private events). Lenexa Parks & Recreation must approve the Special Event Permit, and an additional fee may apply.
