Swim lessons

We offer private, semiprivate and group swim lessons year round at the indoor pool at the Lenexa Rec Center. In the summer months we also offer lessons at our outdoor pools. Lessons are American Red Cross. 

Lenexa Lazers Swim & Dive Team

Those wanting to take their swim skills to the next level can participate in the Lenexa Lazers Swim & Dive Team that practices weekdays throughout the summer. There is also a conditioning program in the off season that usually takes place in February.

Kids Day Out camp

No school? No problem. We offer full day camp from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. any time the Shawnee Mission or Olathe School districts don’t have school.

Summer camp

We offer a full-day, licensed summer camp for school-age children at two locations: the Lenexa Rec Center and the Lenexa Old Town Activity Center. Camps run for nine weeks, beginning the first week of June and ending in early August. Enroll for a single week or the full session — whatever fits your family’s schedule.

Priority registration for 2025 returning families opens Jan. 21, 2026. General registration opens Jan. 26, 2026, at noon.

Enrichment camps

During the summer months we offer specialty camps to expand and grow your child’s natural interests. These camps usually include chess, science, engineering, theater and art.

Sports and fitness camps

Get back to the basics and focus on fundamentals with our sports and fitness camps. We’ll help kids learn to ride a bike, fine tune their basketball or soccer skills or develop their skills in sports like tennis and ultimate frisbee. We also offer agility camps to get kids ready for league play.

Art classes

Arts allow children to express themselves in unique ways, fostering creativity and innovation. They learn to think outside the box by experimenting with colors, shapes, and a variety of materials. We offer ongoing arts classes that focus on painting, drawing and sculpting/multimedia. 

Nature and outdoors

Fresh air, creativity and learning abound in the great outdoors. Dive in to specific topics on summer break in our summer specialty camps, join our gardening club or sign up for geocaching or Playground Passport and explore Lenexa in a new way.

Build physical fitness, improve coordination and promote healthy living with our sports and fitness programs. Kids will learn valuable life skills such as teamwork, discipline and perseverance plus boost their confidence and reduce stress by providing a fun outlet for energy and fostering social connections with peers.

At least once a week we open our gyms at the Lenexa Rec Center and the Lenexa Old Town Activity Center for kids to play pickup sports games on our courts with friends or family after school. This is usually basketball but also can include soccer and futsal. Check each facility's drop-in schedule for days and times.
