Early Childhood Recreation Programs

Foster a love for learning at an early age. Parks & Recreation programs help prepare kids for kindergarten. They provide opportunities to grow socially, physically and cognitively.

Enrichment and physical development programs require advance registration. Play programs are drop-in activities and do not require registration.

Sports + fitness programs

Enhance coordination, lay a foundation for fitness, and develop social-emotional skills.

Learn to Play

The Learn to Play program focuses on skill development and teaching the rules of the game in an environment that promotes sportsmanship, confidence, fundamentals, fitness and fun. Parent involvement required for ages 2.5–4. Sport varies by season and session. Offerings throughout the year include: Football, basketball, soccer and baseball.

Happy Feet

Using songs, stories, nursery rhymes and games, this introductory soccer program uses creative play techniques to develop soccer skills that stay with kids as they grow.

Dance

The Shining Stars Dance program introduces children to a variety of dance styles that include tap, ballet, tumbling, acrobatics, jazz, hip hop and more.

Swim Lessons

Offered year-round at the Lenexa Rec Center indoor pool and during the summer months outside at Sar-Ko-Par Aquatic Center. Lessons are American Red Cross. Kids can start as early as 6 months of age.

Enrichment + education programs

Engage the mind and stimulate intellectual curiosity as you develop new skills.

Preschool Pals

Designed to help kids reach developmental milestones needed for kindergarten. This program meets for two hours twice a week September–May. Go one day or two. Learning is hands-on and focus is on social, emotional and cognitive skills needed in school. (Registration open Aug. 1–April 1)

Young Explorers

Created for curious minds. This once-a-month class will spark your child’s imagination and provide opportunities to explore new subjects and interests. Expanded format in the summer months.

Aquatics programs

Private, semiprivate and group swim lessons are offered year-round at the Lenexa Rec Center's indoor pool and during the summer months outside at Sar-Ko-Par Aquatic Center. Lessons are American Red Cross. Kids can start as early as 6 months of age.

Drop-in play activities

Kids learn through play. The following programs provide a great way to for you to meet up with other caregivers while kids get to check out new toys, activities and make new friends. 

There's no need to register for these activities but there is a $3 per child drop-in fee.

Splash with Me

Get acquainted with the water. Splish and splash with other kids under 5 years old. Offered year-round in the mornings at the Lenexa Rec Center indoor pool and seasonally at Flat Rock Creek Pool and Sar-Ko-Par Aquatic Center.

Free for Lenexa Rec Center members when hosted at the Rec Center. Free for outdoor pool membership holders when hosted at the outdoor pools.  

Gym for Me

Run, ride and play while making new friends. The Lenexa Rec Center and the Lenexa Old Town Activity Center open their gyms for kids ages 5 and under from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on specific days of the week. Check each facility’s schedule and Lenexa.com/cancellations before you go. Each location provides a variety of play items including push toys, riding toys, balls and inflatables available.

Free for Lenexa Rec Center members when hosted at the Rec Center.
