Trail Reconstruction Program (ongoing)
The Trail Reconstruction Program provides ongoing funding to replace current trails to City standards, supporting priorities identified in the Parks & Recreation Master Plan and improving connections between neighborhoods, parks and recreational facilities.
Specific projects are identified annually. Work is anticipated to start in late spring. Weather permitting, it will finish in the fall.

Trail replacement
This program will remove and replace two existing asphalt trails with concrete:
- Electric Park northeast of 95th Street and Loiret Boulevard
- Hickory Ridge Trail southwest of 79th Street and Lackman Road
Current status
July 21, 2026: Rainy weather late last week delayed the contractor's completion of Electric Park Trail and pushed the Hickory Ridge Trail start date back by a few days. The contractor currently plans to complete Electric Park by the end of this week and begin work at Hickory Ridge by early next week, weather permitting.
July 15, 2026: Electric Park Trail reconstruction is still underway due to recent rainy weather. Construction contractor plans to mobilize equipment to the Hickory Ridge Trail on July 20 near the 81st Street trailhead. Pipe work and brick paver installation are anticipated to begin July 20 or 21, with trail removals expected to start shortly thereafter, weather permitting.
June 2026: Access to the trail in Electric Park is closed for reconstruction starting June 22. Work is expected to last three to four weeks.
May 6, 2026: The Lenexa City Council awarded the construction contract to CM Concrete, Inc.
February 2026: Design is currently underway for these projects. They will be advertised for bid in the coming weeks, with others bidding later this spring. All work is scheduled to be completed in 2026.
