Helmet safety: A simple step that saves lives
Published on June 16, 2025
Whether you’re cruising down a neighborhood street on a bicycle or practicing tricks at Rolling Magic Skate Park, one thing should always come first: helmet safety.
Wearing a properly fitted helmet significantly reduces the risk of head injuries for both children and adults. Falls and collisions can happen to anyone, no matter how experienced or cautious. Helmets act as a critical line of defense, absorbing impact and protecting the brain from serious trauma.
Each year, emergency rooms treat thousands of preventable injuries involving bicyclists and skateboarders. Many of these incidents could have had better outcomes if the rider had been wearing a helmet.
Here are a few quick tips to remember:
Wear it every time, even for short rides or casual trips.
Make sure it fits. A helmet should sit level on your head, not tilted back. The straps should be snug but comfortable.
Set the example. Kids are more likely to wear helmets when they see adults doing the same.
Taking a few seconds to put on a helmet could make all the difference. Let’s work together to keep our community safe and set a strong example for riders of all ages.
