Skaters, scooter riders and BMXers, get ready to roll longer. Rolling Magic Skate Park is getting a bright new upgrade — push-button lights.

Whether you're catching early morning air or perfecting your ollie after dinner, you can soon light the park between 5 a.m. and 11 p.m. with the press of a button. The new lights make it easier and safer to ride when the sun isn't shining — especially during short winter days or late summer nights.

A button at the skate park will activate the lights. They’ll stay on for a set period and will automatically shut off to save energy. Riders can press the button again to keep the lights on during park hours.

Crews will begin installing the lights soon, and construction is expected to be completed later in August. Most of the skate park will stay open throughout the project, although a few small areas may close temporarily for safety.

“Lighting has been high on the community’s wish list since the skate park opened,” said Logan Wagler, director of Lenexa Parks & Recreation. “It didn’t make the initial build due to budget constraints, but we’re excited to bring this improvement to life. Lights will boost visibility, increase safety and extend skate time — all wins for our users.”

Rolling Magic Skate Park opened in 2023 at Sar-Ko-Par Trails Park and quickly became a favorite among local riders.
