This summer, the City of Lenexa will begin restoration work at Rose’s Pond in Sar-Ko-Par Trails Park to preserve and strengthen some of the park’s most recognizable features, including the island, stepping-stone crossing and surrounding shoreline.
The project will address deterioration around the island area and help maintain safe public access to this unique park feature for years to come. Improvements include stabilizing the shoreline, repairing the island’s limestone edge, strengthening the stepping-stone crossing and completing targeted dredging near the island to remove built-up sediment.
Rose’s Pond has long been a favorite destination at Sar-Ko-Par Trails Park, providing visitors with opportunities to enjoy nature, walk the trails, fish and experience one of Lenexa’s most distinctive park landscapes. The restoration work will help protect the character of the area while improving the long-term durability of these features.
The project will include:
To complete the work, a portion of the pond will be temporarily drained, allowing crews to access the areas needing repair. Visitors may notice changes to the appearance of the pond area during construction, as well as temporary odors associated with removing natural sediment. These conditions are expected during the restoration process and will improve as the project progresses.
The work is weather dependent and construction is anticipated to take approximately six to eight weeks.
During this time, visitors can continue to enjoy Sar-Ko-Par Trails Park, but fishing will not be available.
The City appreciates the community’s patience while this important preservation project is completed and looks forward to continuing to provide a safe, welcoming and well-maintained park experience at Sar-Ko-Par Trails Park.
