Extension - Temporary Certificate of Occupancy

If the remaining work on your project is not completed prior to the TCO expiration date, you may request an extension. We will review your request and either give you a new expiration date or reasons for the denial of your request.

Process

  1. Complete the TCO Extension Request Form(PDF, 86KB) and include a copy of your final inspection notice.
    • Upload your application to the online permitting and licensing portal in the documents for the project.
    • Staff will review for completeness and notify you when the fee has been assessed for payment.
    • Once you have paid the fee, notify staff at permits@lenexa.com and they will place the request in review.
  2. The building official will review your application and, if approved, issue you an extension.
  3. After you complete the remaining work and before your TCO is expired, schedule a final inspection. It is your responsibility to monitor the expiration of the TCO and schedule a re-inspection prior to that date. If your TCO expires, you may be required to pay additional fees prior to additional inspections.
  4. When all items are completed and approved by our building inspectors, you will be issued a permanent CO.

Fees

Extensions

$250 for the first renewal and $500 for each additional renewal.

No renewal fees are required for model homes as long as there are no code deficiencies.
