Join us for a reception on Thursday, May 14, 2026, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Lenexa City Hall Art Gallery.

Kansas City artist Dean Kube transforms familiar objects into vessels of memory, emotion, and quiet revelation. His layered acrylic and mixed-media paintings blur the line between portrait and still life—where a simple chair, stool, or shadow might hold the same depth of feeling as a human face. Each work explores the “malleable energies” that linger in the spaces we inhabit and the things we touch. Through loose, gestural brushwork and deliberate texture, Kube captures the presence of what remains unseen: the echo of a conversation, the weight of absence, the beauty of uncertainty.

Cecilia Labora brings a complementary dimension to the exhibition with her handcrafted glass jewelry. Her pieces transform light and color into delicate forms, echoing Kube’s exploration of quiet presence. Each work invites viewers to notice the subtle beauty in ordinary materials and to experience the interplay of form, transparency, and reflection.
