Project purpose

City of Lenexa 3/8¢ Sales Tax Project logoThe Parks & Recreation Master Plan identified the construction of a playground within City Center as a priority. The project will improve access to park space and provide a new recreational destination in the heart of City Center, with amenities designed for children, older youth and adults.

Project description

The project includes design and construction of a new playground and fitness park, now known as AdventHealth Central Green Playground & Fitness Park. The park will feature a playground anchored by a more than 22-foot-tall infinity tower, hillside slides, an accessible merry-go-round, seesaw, spinners and swings.

For older youth and adults, the park will include a 14-obstacle Ninja Warrior-style course and a Fitness X-Rig with outdoor fitness stations.

The project also includes enhanced trail connections, safety surfacing, shade structures, landscaping, seating and a year-round restroom to support use of the park throughout the year.

The project is funded through Lenexa's 3/8-cent sales tax, Parks & Recreation Impact Fees, the Playground Replacement Program and a $400,000 donation from AdventHealth through the Lenexa Foundation. An additional $300,000 from the Lenexa City Center TIF District was approved in September 2026 to address additional project amenities and rising construction costs.
