Project purpose

A special benefit district was established to support infrastructure improvements needed to serve new development.

Project description

The project includes construction of Woodsonia Drive from the intersection of Woodsonia Drive and Prairie Star Parkway north approximately 4,500 feet to the existing Woodsonia Drive, along with completion of a 575-foot gap near Westside Family Church between two existing roadway sections. Improvements will include landscaping, stormwater, concrete curb and gutter, sidewalks and streetlights.

Phase I

This phase of work will construct Woodsonia Drive from 87th Street to 600 feet north.

Phase II

This phase of work will construct Woodsonia Drive from Prairie Star Parkway to 89th Street.

Current status

Aug. 12, 2026: A portion of Coon Creek Trail north of Prairie Star Parkway is scheduled to be closed from late August to November for storm sewer work. As part of the storm sewer installation, a section of the existing trail will be removed and replaced with a new concrete trail. A concrete retaining wall will also be constructed along the west side of the trail.

July 2026:

• Phase I of work is complete.
• Phase II project was designed by Phelps Engineering, Inc., and construction is anticipated to be complete by summer 2027.
• Lenexa City approved a construction bid award to Emery Sapp & Sons on July 7.
