Police Ride-Alongs

Our citizen ride-along program gives you the chance to see first-hand the duties of our patrol officers.  

Eligibility

To participate in a ride-along with us, you must:

  • Be at least 18 years of age.
  • Be a Lenexa resident or own a business in Lenexa.
  • Consent to a criminal background check.
  • Have limited or no criminal history or problematic police contacts.

Applicants who do not meet the above listed criteria may be considered on a case-by-case basis. 

Disqualifiers

The following will be considered disqualifiers to participate in the ride-along program:

  • Prior criminal history.
  • Pending criminal action.
  • Pending lawsuit against the Lenexa Police Department or City of Lenexa.
  • Exhibiting conduct that disrupts, diminishes or jeopardizes public trust in the Lenexa Police Department.

The Chief of Police or their designee will make the final decision about the suitability of an applicant's participation in the ride-along program. 

Availability

Ride-alongs are generally available Monday thru Friday between 8 a.m. and 11 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. 

Ride-alongs are a maximum of 4 hours in length. A participant may choose to ride for a shorter amount of time if they wish. 

Once approved to ride-along, applicants will be allowed to participate no more than once every six months.

To apply for a ride-along, complete the ride-along application and waiver form(PDF, 115KB) at least 14 days in advance of your desired participation date. You can also come into the Lenexa Justice Center at the address below to request a ride-along application form.
