City leaders considering next five years of projects

The Lenexa City Council began review of the 2026–2030 Recommended Capital Improvement Program (CIP) at a work session Dec. 9, 2025. This annual process outlines which major capital projects the City plans to build over the next five years, and how those projects will be funded.
The recommended CIP includes 60 capital projects with a total cost of $267.6 million. Notable projects in the proposed CIP include:
- Pavement Management Program (ongoing | $48.7 million)
- Pavement Reconstruction Program (ongoing | $8 million)
- Stormwater Infrastructure Replacement Program (ongoing | $14.9 million)
- Trail Reconstruction Program (ongoing | $1.5 million)
- Trail Expansion Program (ongoing | $4.2 million)
- Fire Station No. 6 (2025–2026 | $28 million)
- Ad Astra Pool Reconstruction (2024–2026 | $10.4 million)
- K-10 and Lone Elm Interchange (2027 | $11.4 million)
- 83rd Street Improvements from Gleason Road to Clare Road (2024–2027 | $13.7 million)
- Clare Road Roundabout Replacement (2026 | $4.8 million)
- Woodsonia Drive Improvements from 83rd Street to Prairie Star Parkway (2025–2026 | $10.1 million)
- 95th Street Improvements from Renner to Lackman (2026 | $3.9 million)
- 95th Street Improvements from Lackman to Noland (2026 | $3.8 million)

The CIP represents the best five-year plan that can be made today based on the information available. Project timelines, start dates, budgets and details are expected to shift as conditions change.
What’s next?
Dec. 16, 2025: The City Council will hold a public hearing where community members can give feedback. The public hearing will take place during the City Council meeting, which will begin at 7 p.m. in the Community Forum at Lenexa City Hall.
Jan. 6, 2026: The Council plans to consider approving the CIP during a City Council meeting at 7 p.m. in the Community Forum at Lenexa City Hall.
