After months of anticipation, the Lenexa Old Town Activity Center is officially open and ready for the community. The City marked the occasion with a grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony on June 10. Located in the heart of Old Town Lenexa at the corner of Santa Fe Trail Drive and Pflumm Road, this enhanced facility will serve residents of all ages with expanded recreation, enrichment and social opportunities.

“This is a fresh chapter for Old Town,” said Logan Wagler, director of Lenexa Parks & Recreation. “With its mix of indoor and outdoor amenities, this center will be a cornerstone for connection and community. Whether you’re a senior exploring new interests, a parent enrolling your child in a camp, or a resident looking for a place to gather and play, this new space will provide something for everyone.”

Programming for older adults and more

The Old Town Activity Center is the new home base for the City’s growing older adult programming. After the former Senior Center was razed in late 2024, programs were relocated to a new addition at the Activity Center called the Haskins Wing. This dedicated space offers more room for classes, workshops, social gatherings and wellness offerings tailored to active older adults.

While the Haskins Wing focuses on serving ages 50 and older, the rest of the facility is designed with all ages in mind. The west side of the building was completely renovated and updated and will now host summer camps, early childhood programs and school-age youth activities.

“Families will find an array of enrichment opportunities that grow with their children, from preschool readiness to after-school fun,” said Wagler.

Outdoor recreation for everyone

Outside, visitors can enjoy a variety of amenities that are open daily from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m., just like Lenexa’s other outdoor spaces. These include four new pickleball courts, an open turf area for free play or fitness and outdoor shuffleboard courts. The 2.6-acre campus is also home to Scouting Park, just south of the facility next to the community gardens. It is a newer playground that features a Boogie Board, tight rope walker and seated zipline.

Perfect for parties, rentals and events

With flexible indoor spaces and modern amenities, the Old Town Activity Center is ideal for hosting events of all kinds. Individuals and businesses can now reserve space for birthday parties, family gatherings, meetings, workshops and other celebrations.

“The City encourages the community to think of the center as a go-to venue for events,” said Wagler.

A vibrant 900-square-foot mural by artist Evan Brown (also known as Doodle Dood) now wraps the southwest corner of the facility, celebrating Lenexa’s past, present and future. This vibrant public art piece was made possible in part by a $9,500 grant from the Kansas Creative Arts Industries Commission, with funding from the National Endowment for the Arts.
