What’s being built there?

If you’ve driven through Lenexa lately, you’ve probably noticed something new taking shape — whether it’s a hotel, a neighborhood of homes, a large business park, your next favorite restaurant in City Center, improvements to a park or road construction. Between City-led infrastructure projects and private development, there’s a lot happening around town!
Curious about what’s going on at a specific site — maybe that empty lot near your neighborhood or the construction down the street from your office? The City offers several online tools to help you stay informed.
Start by visiting Lenexa.com/Planning to learn more about Lenexa’s Planning Division and how city planning shapes our community’s growth. View a development activity map to explore current residential, commercial and industrial projects from private developers. You can also access the zoning and future land use map to see what’s generally planned for undeveloped areas. This map shows the City’s long-term vision for how land may develop over time. For a clearer view, try turning off the zoning layer.
Some construction around Lenexa is public development, coordinated by the City of Lenexa, a utility or the Kansas Department of Transportation. Find Capital Improvement Program projects the City has planned over the next five years.
Another great way to stay informed is by subscribing to Planning Commission agendas and minutes, giving you a look at development applications as they move through the review process. Sign up at Lenexa.com/Enews.
As we celebrate National Community Planning Month in October, it’s a great time to highlight the role that city planners play in shaping the future of Lenexa. From reviewing development proposals to helping guide long-term land-use decisions, planners work behind the scenes to ensure that growth in Lenexa is thoughtful, coordinated and aligned with the community’s vision.
